Neurobiology

Christiano Alves is an accomplished researcher in the field of neuromuscular physiology and genomic medicine, with a focus on developing new treatments for neuromuscular diseases. He earned his PhD degree from the University of São Paulo followed by two full-time postdocs at the Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School (HMS), and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Harvard Medical School. Dr. Alves is currently a junior faculty in the Department of Neurology and in the Center for Genomic Medicine at MGH and HMS, as well as an affiliate researcher at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT.

 

Dr. Alves has received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including the James L. and Elisabeth C. Gamble Endowed Fund for Neuroscience Research Award, the Charles A. King Trust Fellowship from the Bank of America Private Bank and The Medical Foundation at Health Resources in Action, and the Fund for Medical Discovery (FMD) Clinical Fellowship Award from the MGH Executive Committee on Research. He has also been recognized for his outstanding research contributions with awards such as the Keystone Symposia Early Career Investigator Travel Award, Best Talk Award at the 3rd Cancer Cachexia Conference, and the Trainee Award at the 5th Banting and Best Diabetes Center. Dr. Alves is a member of the World Muscle Society and has published numerous articles in high-impact scientific journals.
